Explore Geelong’s industrial architecture and artistic works that envision a new ‘museum of industry’. Be sure to bring your camera on this guided walking tour.

Museum of Industry explores the industrial architecture in Geelong.

The aim is to shift cultural stigma of industrial architecture.

An introduction of artistic works exploring Geelong’s industrial architecture prepares participants for a guided walk envisioning a new ‘museum of industry’. Participants will immerse in the industrial aesthetics and atmosphere of the Corio landscape and document response.

Vast tracts of industrial architecture greet travellers along the Melbourne road as a welcoming gateway to Geelong. Industrial architecture is perceived negatively. Conversely speculative ideas omit the local communities that live in its vicinity and have worked in the industries, and contributed enormously to Geelong.

Identifying the industrial architecture as the life-blood of Geelong’s past is important. Considering new industries is vital. But envisioning the extraordinary architectural character of Geelong industrial legacy contributes to a culturally rich future of Geelong as UNESCO City of Design.

This project invites communities, planners, artists, youth and municipal leaders to take part.
