A unique placemaking platform that uses pedal power to generate a living space on the street. Bring your bike and come along for the ride.

What characterizes Geelong and its people? We notice two things:

  1. Love for good food, coffee, local handmade craft and design, and
  2. Cycling.

We respond with the design of the first Geelong ‘PopCycle’ – bikes that Geelong locals can ride around separately and then come together to celebrate ‘Made-in-Geelong’ products, including locally grown/produced coffee, local-made food, handcraft, and other design crafts/products. The PopCycle is a placemaking platform to generate a ‘living space on the street’.

The Geelong PopCycle is designed ‘differently’ – in that it is mobile, portable, adaptable, sustainable, and economical. The design of the PopCycle proposes to include a pedal-powered generator that can play a small but useful role in the pop-up café/flea market operation.

The purpose of the PopCycle is to create a mobile and flexible placemaking platform to generate a place-activation phenomenon ‘differently’ on the streets, where suppliers of Geelong will source everything locally (i.e. locally roasted coffee). The multiple and different arrangements and configurations of the PopCycles can operate separately or join to make multiple ‘living spaces on the street’.

Starting at Cunningham Pier, join us to walk or ‘cycle’ our way along the Waterfront (around The Carousel and Steampacket Gardens) and locations along Moorabool Street.
