Global coverage for local design

An innovative local design that brings families together safely has attracted global interest through the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN).

Geelong’s Multicultural Aged Care Services’ (MACS) ‘Live Visitor Pod’ has featured in a recent UCCN virtual debate and international media coverage.

MACS created their Live Visitor Pod earlier in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, so that relatives could continue to visit their loved ones face-to-face.

The Visitor Pod is a converted shipping container complete with furniture, heating and cooling. Through the smart use of perspex glass panels and cleaning protocols, the Visitor Pod allows families to visit their loved ones in person while respecting current social distancing guidelines.

MACS’ Visitor Pod featured in a UCCN virtual debate on ‘The power of design in response to the global crisis and the restoration of the world’ in July, among a shortlist of groundbreaking design projects from around the world.

The Visitor Pod also featured in a follow up interview by Kaunas 2022 European City of Culture.
