About Steigen

A collaboration between local Geelong company Steigen and the Promoting Djilang project group, an initiative of the Committee for Geelong’s Leaders for Geelong program – led to this local venture, with socks designed by Wadawurrung artists B.J O’Toole and Mel Robinson in conjunction with Steigen founder Louis Rowan. “Bunjil the Wedgetail eagle is the creator of Wadawurrung country. He continues to watch over our country and waterways whilst the handprints in the artwork symbolise the generations that are connected to country”. The release of the socks coincided with NAIDOC Week celebrations and Steigen, which creates athletic wear, hopes the sale of the socks will help raise awareness of Wadawurrung cultural heritage.
